Introduction: The Weight We Carry, The Freedom We Seek
From Chains to Crown: Your Transformative Journey from Hurts to Freedom in Christ

Life, in its beautiful yet challenging complexity, often leaves us with deep wounds. From childhood traumas and relational betrayals to personal failures and the burdens of a broken world. These hurts can become invisible chains that shape our identity, limit our potential, and rob us of our greatest joy. They show up as anxiety, fear, resentment, shame, or a persistent feeling of being stuck, regardless of every effort to make progress in life.
If you’re here seeking Christ’s wisdom solution to heal from trauma, or if you are longing for freedom in Christ from past hurts, know that you’re not alone in this yearning for release.

“Jesus Himself came to ‘bind up the brokenhearted’ and ‘proclaim freedom for the captives'”
— Isaiah 61:1 (NIV)
As a Christian coach, dedicated to biblical wisdom for emotional healing, I strongly believe God doesn’t simply patch our wounds; He heals and transforms them into powerful testimonies of His Grace. This journey from hurts to freedom in Christ is deliberate, grace-filled, and guided by Scripture and practical, Christ-centered Coaching Principles.
Are you ready to exchange your chains for the crown of life He promises? (James 1:12)
Understanding the Landscape of Hurt: Naming What Binds Us

Many years ago, i knew a friend who struggled with disappointments and depression, this affected her health until the Doctor said to her “i won’t be giving you any more drugs until you deal with all the emotional issues in your life.” That was her wake up call to deal with all the Negative Emotions in her.
Before we can embrace true freedom in Christ, we must courageously name the hurts that bind us. These aren’t mere setbacks; they’re profound emotional, psychological, and spiritual wounds affecting every area of life, with a familiar sting of pain, shame and discomfort.
Common Sources of Deep Hurts:
- 🔗 Past Traumas: Abuse, neglect, abandonment, or significant losses that echo through the years, leave deep scars in us, which hurts afresh, each time we think of them.
- 💔 Relational Wounds: Betrayal by loved ones, divorce, or toxic dynamics that shatter trust. These pierces more fiercely because trusted hands are the bearers of these hurts in our lives.
- 😔 Personal Failures: Shame from past choices, regret, or self-condemnation that whispers lies of unworthiness
- ⚖️ Systemic Injustices: Discrimination, oppression, or hardships that compound feelings of powerlessness, is the enemy’s lethal weapon to destroy your confidence in God.
- 🙏 Spiritual Wounds: Disappointment with God, religious abuse, or seasons of spiritual dryness, becomes a breathing ground for unhealthy hurt in our lives.

These hurts imprint patterns like self-sabotage, distrust, chronic anxiety, depression, or a need for control in an unhealthy way. Often, they manifest as internal voices echoing satan’s lies about our worth, abilities, and God’s Love.
Biblical Examples of Wrestling with Pain:
- Job endured unimaginable loss yet found God in his pain (Job 42:5)
- David poured out anguish in the Psalms, declaring God’s nearness (Psalm 34:18)
- Jeremiah lamented devastation but clung to God’s faithfulness (Lamentations 3:22-23)
- Jesus, our saviour and High Priest, was “a man of suffering, familiar with pain” (Isaiah 53:3)
God doesn’t dismiss our pain—Rather, He invites us to cast it upon Him (1 Peter 5:7).
💭 Reflective Coaching Question:
What specific hurts are you carrying today? How do they impact your life, relationships, and walk with God?
🌟 Scriptural Meditation:
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
— Psalm 34:18 (NIV)
Christ draws near in our deepest pain, offering comfort as the ultimate Healer.
The Divine Invitation to Freedom: A Promise Rooted in Christ

The Gospel truth: Freedom in Christ from past hurts is the core of our faith.
🎯 Jesus proclaimed:
“So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed”
— John 8:36 (NIV)
In Christ Jesus, we encounter the Faith which brings liberation. This inner liberation breaks sin, shame, fear, and wounds’ lingering grip. It’s a gift received through faith, as we are enabled to step into purposeful living and bold love through Christ Jesus. The Beauty about the freedom encountered in Christ Jesus, is the lingering eternal nature of His Freedom power in our lives. This Power Changes everything about us and about our circumstances, as we receive strength to break free from negative patterns, both within and around us; thereby bringing us into ‘Wholeness’.

God desires your wholeness more than you imagine. He calls you to thrive in the resurrected life of Christ Jesus:
✨ Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom
— 2 Corinthians 3:17 (NIV)
💡 Here is your Coaching Point:
Lean into God’s passion for your freedom—He “heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds” (Psalm 147:3).
🔥 Scriptural Meditation:
“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then…”
— Galatians 5:1 (NIV)
The Journey Begins: Acknowledgment and Surrender
1️⃣ Acknowledgment: Naming Your Wounds

Healing demands honesty—A wrong diagnosis will never stir the right result; this is because, unacknowledged hurts fester in the shadows. Christ-like self-assessment mirrors Jesus examining our hearts (Matthew 7:3-5). So, to truly begin healing, you must be ready to rightly diagnose what is wrong with you! Simply begin by Journaling your life and daily encounters, from the moment you wake up, till you lay your head on the pillow (whatever your pillow is) at night!
📝 Here is your Journaling Technique:
- Set aside Quiet time with God
- Write Freely, whatever comes to mind without censorship
- Consider: “What events still evoke pain?” “What emotions do I avoid?” “What is Jesus Saying to me, amidst all of these?”
2️⃣ Surrender: Pouring Out Your Heart

Surrender is sacred biblical practice— this is a point of raw grief to God, seen in most parts of the Psalms. It’s trust, and Not doubt, inviting God into your pain, and relinquishing All to Him. We may wrestle in ourselves, but at the point of surrender, we strive no more within us, but give All to Jesus Christ.
💭 Reflective Coaching Question: What emotions surface? Are you expressing them to God without fear? How well will you say you have surrendered to the Lord, regarding the issue?
🙌 Scriptural Meditation:
“Trust in him at all times… pour out your hearts to him”
— Psalm 62:8 (NIV)
🔑 Embracing Forgiveness: Unlocking Chains
1️⃣ Forgiving Others: Release the Captor

Holding grudges, exposes you to the control of the offender. Forgiveness in Contrast, releases the debtor. It helps you align with Christ (Matthew 6:14-15), and brings you to a place of eternal peace and perfection in God. God is forgiving by Nature, this is why He forgives us our trespasses, and requires that we do same, as beneficiaries of His Grace. I’ll admit, this seems tough to do, when the hurt is done and the damage caused is much, but Jesus has said He is with us and will Never leave us nor forsake us. Meaning, through those hurts and pain, you can forgive and trust him to perfect you; because the same power that forgives is the very same power which heals.
🙏 Forgiveness Prayer:
- Acknowledge the hurt- Don’t deny the hurt done against you. You can be vulnerable before the Lord, because He is your Father and helper!
- Declare: “Lord, I forgive [Name] for [offense] by Your power”
- Address resistance with God- Ask God for the Grace to keep being yielded to Him.
2️⃣ Forgiving Yourself: God’s Grace
Self-forgiveness breaks shame’s cycle. If Christ forgives, we must too (2 Corinthians 5:17). When Condemnation is allowed to fester in a life, it destroys the Joy and peace which should abound in that life. Why? Because Condemnation is an enemy to your faith; and Faith is your access to God’s Abounding Grace.
💖 Scriptural Meditation:
“Be kind… forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you”
— Ephesians 4:32 (NIV)
🧠 Renewing Your Mind: Truth Over Lies

Hurts plant lies, but biblical mind renewal replaces them:
When you are transformed by the Renewing of your mind in the Truth of Gods will via His word to you, you cannot be tossed to and fro, by the lies of the world. Through this reframing process, you will be able to think right and live right because ‘as a man thinks in his heart, so is he’-Proverbs 23:7
🔄 Cognitive Reframing:
- Identify lies: Examine deceptive thoughts in your life. What lies have you believed for so long? For example (“I’m unlovable”, “I Can Never succeed at……”)
- Challenge: Trigger yourself to a Counter Truth of reasoning, via God’s Word. Ask yourself- “What does God’s Word say about this? “Does my thought align with Scripture?”
- Replace: Exchange the lie for God’s Truth in Scriptures. This is how to transform yourself by RENEWING YOUR MIND. For example, if you feel worthless, challenge yourself to God’s Truth and Replace such thought with the reality of scripture that “Christ Jesus Loved you and died for you“ (Romans 5:8)
💭 Reflective Coaching Question: What thoughts replay from hurts? How does God’s truth counter them? What will you choose to Believe beginning from this moment?
✨ Scriptural Meditation:
“Be Not conformed to this world, but be transformed by the Renewing of your mind”
— Romans 12:2 (NIV)
🚀 Action Steps: Practical Freedom Tools
🛡️ 1. Setting Healthy Boundaries
Boundaries reflect Christ’s wisdom to Protect the Anointing and Grace of God upon His Life; thus preventing fatal exhaustion. Many have lost the very passion which guided them at the beginning of their career ministry or family life, because they failed to realize their need for Rest and healthy Boundaries. Jesus in Mark 1:35, knew when to separate himself, retreating to a quiet place to take much needed spiritual rest in prayer and meditation in God. Rest is Spiritual, but when you ignore the call to seclusion, you would discover a malfunction, in your ability to uphold good boundaries – because both are interconnected. We find profound wisdom in Hebrew 4:11- ‘LABOUR to enter into Rest’. It is God’s Command to us, Not a Suggestion. Meaning you are to fight, whatever is stealing your Rest :
📋 Rest Boundary Technique:
- Spot depletion areas- Ask yourself, ‘What areas of my life are depleting me?’
- Define boundaries clearly- Ask Yourself, ‘How far can my Capacity take?’ ‘When is Enough truly enough?
- Practice loving assertion- Decide, how to stand your ground in ensuring your Boundary is not Crossed. Do it in Love, according to Ephesians 4:15, which requires us to speak the Truth in Love. Standing your Ground Lovingly, is the best thing you can do Keep your Boundaries.
💭 Reflective Coaching Question: How important is Rest for you and Why? Where do boundaries protect your peace? What’s your first step?
🛡️ Scriptural Meditation:
“Guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it”
— Proverbs 4:23 (NIV)
🤝 2. Building Supportive Community

God designed fellowship: No person, is an island nor a self made citadel of knowledge, we all learn from each other and grow together in reality of God’s Word. “Practice carrying each other’s burdens. In this way you will fulfill the law of the Messiah.” God designed fellowship to be a place of vulnerability and healing amongst humans. Galatians 6:2(ISV). Two are Always better than one for they would have a good reward for their labour (Ecclesiastes 4:9)
👥 Steps:
- Pray for connections- God blesses Godly Connections and fellowships, because the company of the wise shall be Blessed. When God divinely connects you with the right set of people, you will Never lose out in life, they will be like Jonathan to David and like David to Mephiboseth! 2Samuel 2&4.
- Join small groups- There is usually an interconnection of love and unity within love based small groups. These connections, breaths life and Joy into every hurting heart. Why? Because Jesus Said- “where two or three are gathered, there I am in their midst”. When Jesus is in the midst, He is usually there to heal, set free and deliver!
- Share vulnerably – Many don’t believe it, but healing, especially inner healing comes, amidst vulnerability (Proverbs 27:17). So Refuse to Fight alone, but open up to a safe proven community of believers and people of shared faith, who have been where you are and have experienced God’s touch. Jas 5:16 (KJV)– “Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much”.
🤝 Scriptural Meditation:
“Carry each other’s burdens…”
— Galatians 6:2 (NIV)
